Binocular Vision and Visual Stress

Many patients with symptoms like eyestrain, headaches, reading difficulties, or double vision go undiagnosed in standard eye exams.

Visual Stress affects an estimated 15–20% of the UK population and is frequently linked with dyslexia. A colorimetry assessment carried out by one of Peeper’s trained experts uses precision tints to calm the visual system, helping to reduce migraines, poor concentration and reading fatigue. What's Involved in the Examination?

Our Specialist Optometrists take a thorough, systematic approach to investigating symptoms of visual stress and reading difficulty. Prior to the assessment, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire to help tailor the consultation to your child's individual needs.

Following the assessment, our specialist will discuss all findings and recommend a personalised plan to help your child read with greater comfort and confidence.

Comprehensive Eye Examination & Binocular Vision Assessment

A full eye health check including retinal imaging (OCT and Optos widefield fundus photography), prescription assessment, and detailed binocular vision testing. Many visual stress symptoms overlap with eye coordination problems, making it essential to identify and address these first.

Cycloplegic Refraction (where needed)

Specialist drops may be used to relax the focusing muscles, ensuring an accurate prescription measurement and preventing unnecessary visual strain.

Coloured Overlay Assessment

A wide range of coloured overlays are tested using the Wilkins Rate of Reading Test to objectively measure reading speed and comfort. Where a benefit is identified, an overlay will be provided to take home for several weeks to confirm the improvement in everyday life.

Intuitive Colorimetry & Precision Tint Prescription

If the overlay continues to help, a detailed colorimetry assessment fine-tunes the exact hue and saturation unique to your child's visual system, allowing us to prescribe precision-tinted lenses for comfortable, everyday use.

In-Depth Consultation

The optometrist will begin with a detailed conversation about your headaches, including where they occur, how often, how long they last, and what seems to trigger them. They will also ask about any associated symptoms such as blurred or double vision, light sensitivity, or nausea, as well as your medical history, current medications, and your typical visual environment at work or home.

Vision & Eye Coordination Assessment

Next, the specialist will carefully assess your glasses or contact lens prescription and carry out a full evaluation of how your eyes work together. This includes testing eye movements, focusing ability, and how well your eyes coordinate - all of which can be common but overlooked causes of headaches.

Eye Health Examination

A thorough check of the health of your eyes, including a slit lamp examination, eye pressure measurement, Optos widefield imaging and OCT scans to assess the internal structures of the eye in detail.

Humphreys Visual Field Testing

A computerised visual field test to check your peripheral vision, which can sometimes be affected by conditions contributing to headaches.

Colorimetry (if appropriate)

If visual stress is suspected as a contributing factor, a colourimetry assessment may be carried out to determine whether precision-tinted lenses could help reduce symptoms.

Discussion & Personalised Management Plan

The optometrist will then take the time to talk through all of our findings with you clearly and provide a written management plan outlining our recommendations and any follow-up required.

Dry Eye

Dry eye disease (DED) is a very common condition that can develop for a number of reasons, including aging, hormonal changes, certain medications, and autoimmune conditions. In today's screen-heavy world, combined with air condition and pollution, it's becoming increasingly common – and spending long hours on phones, tablets, and computers causes us to blink less often, which means our tears evaporate more quickly.

A Dry Eye Assessment at Peeper’s provides a thorough, personalised evaluation designed to fully investigate the causes and effects of your dry eye symptoms. Dry eye can cause a range of discomforts -including dryness, burning, stinging, redness, grittiness, watery eyes, light sensitivity, and blurred or fluctuating vision - often affecting reading, screen use, driving, and overall quality of life.

Myopia Management

By 2050 it is estimated that half of the world’s population will have myopia, while one billion people will have high myopia. At Peeper’s, we meet this growing need with a variety of myopia control methods which are outlined below. Myopia management works by slowing the elongation of the eye, with some interventions reducing progression by approximately 60%. Myopia management is crucial to help reduce the risk of developing a range of ocular pathologies such as retinal detachment, glaucoma and myopic macular degeneration.
